M24 Last-Ditch Witch
As the name implies, the Model 24 is designed with preparing for an eventual bad situation. I figure this knife will be most relevant to those who may have to operate with minimal equipment. Whether by necessity or by choice.
For instance it could apply to small combat teams behind enemy lines, downed pilots, SAR personnel, hunters and those who wish to have a working knife on their person at all times. That’s my sales pitch, but I do believe it.
The LDW is made to fit inside the large adventurer aluminum kit box (which fits in the side cargo pocket of most cargo pants) or worn as a neck knife. It has a shorter handle than most full size knives but a nearly full size blade. I borrowed this idea from my friend Terry Barney who designed the Silver Creek psk I made for him some years ago. The idea is that the blade of a psk (personal survival knife) should be longer than the handle. The reason is because a handle can always be improvised in the field, by using the knife itself to fashion one. It makes absolute sense. Most psk knives have long handles for comfort and the blades are way too short for much use other than cutting cordage.
The handle on the Witch is long enough to get you by while you fashion handle for it using a branch (or some other man made item if you’re in an urban environment) and cordage.
Blade length: @ 3 5/8”
