Every Turley knife comes with a Protect-o-plate. This is a separate plate or card with a code imprinted on the back (on the front for some early plates). Embedded in those codes is all the information about your knife. When it was made, the model number, serial number, options etc. Use this information below to decode your protect-o-plate.
Model (M)-
Numbered 01 through 34. See catalog for model numbers. (example: A Gasconade River code would be M01 or M1, A Thunderbolt would be M14, a Thunderbolt with Gasconade blade would be M1401)
"XX" or “00” code designates a prototype
Specials (knives not in the catalog) will be labeled as “M” followed by their name initials. As follows: BB= Big belly (will follow the model number. Ie: M01bb would be a Gasconade Big belly model), BBR= Boone’s branch, BF= Burris Fork, BN= Bull nose (to follow the model number), BOT= Bottle opener, BP= Big Piney, BW= Black Water, CC= Cooper’s creek, CCV= Cheyenne Cobra variant, CR= Current River, DW= Dogwood, GR= Grand river, HC= Huzzah creek, JD= Jersey devil, LP= Little Piney, LR= Lamine river, LT= Little tebo, MC= Moniteau creek, MOC=Moon Creek, MR= Moreau River, NR= Niangua river, OR= Osage River, ORD= Osage River Daweese, SHS= Shaw Shank, SQ= Suicide Squeeze, SR= Soldier River, TB= Turley branch, WC= Wilson’s creek
Any unnamed specials will be coded as “MS” and will have no serial numbers.

Grind (Gr)-
A= ¼ height, B= ½ height, C= ¾ height, D= Full height, E= Varied, F= reverse varied, G= fuller(s), H= commando, I= near full height, J= whip grind, K= machete grind, L= Recondo grind,
M= Sea Bee, N= Phantom tanto, O= half height flat top, OS= Old school full height convex,

Spine (SPN)-

Blade Finish (BF)-
A= Heat treat scale left on, B= Entire blade sanded bright, C= Sanded bright flats, D= Duracoat flats, E= Mirror polished bevels, F= Blued finish, G= Vinegar etch finish, H= Hamon line
Spacers (SP)-
1= thin, 2= ⅛”, 3= ¼”, 4= sandwich, 5= under scales, 6=multi spacers, PM= pommel spacer(s)

Serial number:
This will be located at the bottom of the protect-o-plate. Knives are serial numbered within their model number. For example if you have a Thunderbolt with the serial number 18, then it is the 18th Thunderbolt made. ("00" indicates a prototype)
